Stupid Stat of the Day: The Red Wings are unbeaten in regulation all-time in their first game after a shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets that goes more than the initial three rounds.

In March 2007, Detroit dropped a six-round shootout decision to the Blue Jackets and followed it up with a shootout loss to the St. Louis Blues. January 2011 saw the Wings drop a four-round shootout to Columbus before turning around and beating the Blue Jackets in overtime the next night. In November 2017, the Wings lost to Columbus in a nine-round shootout and then went on to beat the Calgary Flames.
