The pair of matchups against prospects from the Dallas Stars organization will take place in Frisco, TX, on September 13 and 14.
Usually there’s significant overlap between the Red Wings’ summer Development Camp roster and their lineup for the Prospect Tournament/Games but that’s not the case this time. The only returning players from the summer camp are forwards Carter Bear, Kevin Bicker, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, and Grayden Robertson-Palmer. On defense, it’s just Will Murphy and the Griffins-contracted Jacob Truscott. All three goalies – Rudy Guimond, Landon Miller, and Michal Pradel – were at Development Camp.
Most of the players who weren’t at Development Camp spent last season playing in either the AHL or European pro leagues. This includes the Griffins-contracted Carson Bantle as well as Ondrej Becher, Shai Buium, Nate Danielson, Alexandre Doucet, Emmitt Finnie, Jakub Rychlovsky, and Axel Sandin-Pellikka.
Justice Christensen, Vincent Collard, Maxim Dirracolo, Florent Houle, Wyatt Kennedy, Liam Kilfoil, and Carl-Otto Magnusson will be with the team as free agent invitees.
Of course I can’t look at the roster for these games without making notes on the assigned jersey numbers.
Six players from this set have appeared in Red Wings camps wearing different numbers than they will in Frisco.
Carter Bear, who wore the #21 that now belongs to James van Riemsdyk in June, has switched to the #41 worn by Eddie Genborg in June.
This is not the first time this exact change has happened, as Luke Glendening wore #21 in his first Development Camp with the Red Wings, it having been made available by Tomas Tatar’s pending switch to #90. When the Red Wings signed Stephen Weiss as a free agent, Weiss ended up with #90 and Tatar took #21 back, leaving Glendening to switch to #41.
Shai Buium’s change is similarly-expected. With Mason Appleton having claimed the #22 that Buium wore in camp last fall, Buium switches to #17.
With Austin Watson having taken the #24 that Axel Sandin-Pellikka was assigned at Development Camp in 2024, ASP has made the switch to #44.
Ondrej Becher also hasn’t been in a Detroit camp since the 2024 Development Camp. At that time he wore the #41 that now belongs to Bear. This fall he has #57, which was worn in Development Camp by Noah Dower-Nilsson.
Carson Bantle wore #42 in Detroit’s main camp last fall. That number went to Brett Solomon at the 2025 Development Camp, leaving Bantle now wearing the #64 that Brady Cleveland had in dev camp.
The most interesting change is perhaps Will Murphy. Murphy wore #26 in Development Camp and has been assigned #89 for the Prospect Games. The Red Wings didn’t announce anyone else taking #26, so the reason for the change is currently unknown. It’s possible that Ian Mitchell or John Leonard – who were signed over the summer but not included in the team’s jersey number announcement – will be wearing #26 when the main camp opens.
