In the final hour before Friday’s NHL trade deadline, the Detroit Red Wings sent forward Elmer Soderblom to the Pittsburgh Penguins in return for a third-round draft pick.

Soderblom never really latched on with the Red Wings so I appreciate Detroit GM Steve Yzerman getting something in return for him. It’s disappointing because he seemed to have so much potential but it’s better than losing him for nothing.
And there’s always the hope that it’s clearing the decks for another move as the deadline nears but I wouldn’t count on that.
