Stupid Stat of the Day: The Red Wings are unbeaten all-time in their first Monday game of the calendar year when the game is on the road and they come into it on a two-game losing streak.

This marks the sixth time that the Red Wings’ first Monday game of the calendar year comes with them on a two-game losing streak. Four of those previous games were losses at home. The one remaining was a 3-0 win in a visit to the New Jersey Devils.

Bonus notes: In 1962, Detroit’s first Monday game of the calendar year didn’t come until they hosted the New York Rangers on New Year’s Eve. There are several years where Detroit never played a Monday game.
