  • Seven hours to game time and still not a single suspension handed out. I’m beginning to think even McLennan will go without one, since it doesn’t seem like they’d wait until the Flames didn’t even have time to call up someone from Omaha.

Random stat time… The Wings are 3-3 in Game Sixes since 2000. The three losses all came after losing Game Five (which they didn’t do this time around). The Wing shave not lost Game Six and Game Seven of a series since 1991 when they took a 3-1 series lead over St. Louis and lost the final three games.

Kyle Quincey will enter the Detroit lineup after Brett Lebda suffered a concussion from the sucker punch by Daymond Langkow in Game Five.

  • From TSN…

Sources say Jamie McLennan has been suspended for five games for his slash on Detroit’s Johan Franzen in Game 5 of the Western Conference quarter-finals.

McLennan’s slash was part of an undisciplined display from Calgary that included a Daymond Langkow uppercut to the face of Brett Lebda following a Lebda hip-check, along with a Jarome Iginla butt-end, leading to a late game crosscheck on Red Wings veteran Mathieu Schneider.

I don’t really, but part of me hopes the Wings run around sucker-punching people all night tonight, since obviously there’s nothing wrong with doing so.

Edit: From the NHL Press Release…

    Calgary Flames goaltender Jamie McLennan
has been suspended five games, Calgary coach Jim Playfair has been fined
$25,000 and the Flames’ organization has been fined $100,000 for a variety
of actions late in Game Five of the team’s Western Conference Quarter-final
series against the Detroit Red Wings.

I’m sure the loss of money will stop it from happening again. I wonder if Mr. I can go to the NHL and say, “Here’s my $100,000, now let me take a shot at Iginla.”

  • Five game suspension = no game suspension. How likely is McLennan to play in the Flames next five games whether they be this year or at the start of next year (wherever he ends up)?

Exactly… I think he needed a fine as well as a suspension–that’d make him think about sportsmanship.

Atleast Playfair got something as well as the rest of the team. It isn’t EVERYTHING I wanted, but I guess I’m content… I’ll take what I can get.

  • As sad as the whole thing is I think it is what this team and fanbase needs. Look how everything ended up in 97 and 98. Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I want another cup and whatever motivates us to do that is fine by me!

I agree, but damn this thing can get out of control if Detroit loses tonight. Talk about headhunting… that’s about what it’ll come down to. I hope for all purposes Detroit can shrug this f*cking team tonight.

I had a feeling nothing would be done by the league. What a shame. Iginla should be gone for tonights match, as he knows what sh*tty play he gave and dismissed it as saying it was the heat of the moment. So, I see this guy (Iginla) on the street and the heat of the moment has me go and take his knees out. Now he is gone from hockey, and I guess I should dismiss it as a heated moment in my life. :hockeysmiley:

    Go Wings!

  • Wow, shot that Giordano took looked bad. Hope he’s alright.

So far, a bit of a slow game. Wings are controlling things pretty well. The refs are letting some things go, a bit of a surprise since a lot of people thought they’d call everything.

Well, I have yet to see Detroit actually cause a penalty, as Calgary is already getting the benefit of the doubt. I’m still confused as to the running of Kipper, I have yet to really see anything that would constitute a penalty, or anything for that matter. This is so sad when a team has to hide behind some phantom penalty calls in order to get a chance in the series.

    Whoop dat ASS Detroit!!!

    Go Wings!!

    Glove_Dropper April 23, 2007 1:59 AM
  • Someone from Calgary crashed the net a lot harder than Holmstrom did right at the end of the period there, no call.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 2:00 AM
  • Yeah, my point exactly. I’m not worried about the outcome of the series as long as we get a fairly called game. I’m for having the better team move on, but not at the expense of a cheap call or dirty players. How much can the league penalize someone who just doesn’t give a sh*t?

    Go Wings!!!

    Glove_Dropper April 23, 2007 2:03 AM
  • And Iginla gets the Flames on the board. Does that mean the Wings have free reign to do whatever they need to do to get back in the game now?

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 2:08 AM
  • Goddamit Lang! I could have put that in!

And how surprising that Bertuzzi wasn’t called for hitting Kiprusoff.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 2:10 AM
  • Woohoo! I knew bitching about Lang would do some good!

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 2:30 AM

I have to comment on LANG’s GOAL ! I guess my bitchin about his play is finally PAYING OFF …HAHAA :hockeysmiley:

    skyguy52 April 23, 2007 2:31 AM
  • After two… Have to think that the Wings are both disappointed not to be leading but happy not to be losing in Calgary. If Detroit keeps controlling things the way they have been, they could finish things tonight, but the Flames showed it only takes one play.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 2:37 AM
  • Calgary is tired, and if Detroit can just pick it up a little bit this one could be ours. At the end of the period, all the Flames were gased, and I mean gased.

    GO WINGS!!!!

Oh yeah….Damn it Lang! You should have two goals tonight!! Maybe he will get better. :hockeysmiley:

    Glove_Dropper April 23, 2007 2:38 AM

Ha! Yeah, why are we happy with one goal? Damnit Lang, you should be dominating these guys!

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 2:41 AM
  • LET’S GO RED WINGS!!

    OOPS, that was embarr…

    Glove_Dropper April 23, 2007 2:46 AM
  • Wings power play has sucked tonight. Wasted it all yesterday.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 2:58 AM
  • Damnit, can’t give the Flames a power play in what’s damn-near a sudden death situation.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 3:10 AM
  • Oh damn, Cleary nearly had it right there.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 3:26 AM
  • Aww f*ck, we’ve got overtime.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 3:27 AM
  • Yeah, could be a long one too. Both clubs are spent right about now. Hopefully Detroit can be aware of Calgary’s counter punching style of play through the next pereiod.

    Go Wings!

    Glove_Dropper April 23, 2007 3:34 AM
  • Aww f*ck, we’ve got overtime.

Well, the WINGS have had their chances tonight, shots 37-15 WINGS, and a goal post by Cleary in the final seconds. A 2-1 break with Chelly and Cleary, etc. with minutes remaining. Whichever team loses tonight, it’ll be tough to swallow. Hope the God’s are in RED & WHITE. I’ve been waiting for one RED WING to simply out muscle a FLAME and end the game. First team to a make a mistake in OT will be the tie breaker.

    skyguy52 April 23, 2007 3:36 AM
  • Here’s to the Wings scoring on the first OT shift, I’ve got an 8:00 AM meeting tomorrow! :hockeysmiley:

And one more thing …… I don’t see this OT going long. Anyone else wanna weigh in on this?

    skyguy52 April 23, 2007 3:38 AM
  • Sure, but I do see the game going long if the goal isn’t scored in the first 5min. Anyone?

    Go Wings!!

    Glove_Dropper April 23, 2007 3:42 AM
  • Mickey Redmond on going to commerical: “1-1, Calgary Flames, Detroit Red Wings. Here we go gang.”

    Here we go indeed.

Worthless stats: Wings are 53-56 all time in playoff OT. They’ve lost four of their last five.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 3:43 AM
  • So clipping a Wings’ head with your stick is incidental but Bert goes off. Damnit.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 3:44 AM
  • There’s the call on the careless use of the stick that I was looking for but sucks to see Holmstrom go down.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 3:56 AM
  • Damnit, Kipper was huge there. Power play looked good but they won’t get another chance like that.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 4:03 AM
  • Holy sh*t did Hasek just come up huge!

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 4:08 AM
  • Who will be the HERO tonight? :hockeysmiley: Thank Goodness it was MOSS.

    skyguy52 April 23, 2007 4:08 AM

f*ck it .. Bench Samuelson and Lang!

    skyguy52 April 23, 2007 4:12 AM
  • Tell me that dropped in behind!

    Damnit! Kiprusoff had it.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 4:18 AM
  • So after one OT, the Wings are minus Homer. Looked like Calgary could lose Warriner but he seemed to rebound quickly.

This is Detroit’s third straight overtime playoff game to reach the second extra period. They won one and lost one of those. They’re 3-2 in their last five 2+ OT games.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 4:22 AM
  • Yzerfan19, you rock man! Thanks for the good bits of info. Can’t say I wanted to be right, but darn it, if we are still in it after that super play by Moss, who the Hell cares….WWoohhooo!!

    GO WINGS!!

    I hope this works!

    sh*t, another blowout! :hockeysmiley:

    Glove_Dropper April 23, 2007 4:31 AM
  • I totally just had this little vision of getting a phone call from my father in law when he’s on his way into work this morning and me still being on the couch. I’d rather have that than a Detroit loss.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 4:35 AM
  • Johan Franzen is the motherf*cking man!

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 4:41 AM
  • You are correct Sir!! Although he needs some work on the interviewing…. :hockeysmiley:

The coverage here from VS was so funny… unbelievable!!

Have a great meeting tomorrow Yzerfan. Goodnight!

    Go Wings!!

    Glove_Dropper April 23, 2007 4:46 AM
  • What’d he say? I’ve got FSN here.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 4:48 AM
  • What’d he say? I’ve got FSN here.

The interviewer asked what it was like to score the goal, and he says,”Terrific playing here, was good, thats all.”

    I was laughing histarically.

    Go Wings!!

    Glove_Dropper April 23, 2007 4:50 AM
  • Ha! That’s great.

You know the best part of closing things out this morning? None of that sh*t from the end of the game Saturday matters anymore. Had the Flames won, there would always be the question of “What if they hadn’t had Langkow?” or whoever. Not now. Now it’s more like, “Remember that sh*t they pulled at the end of Game Five? What a bunch of damn losers.”

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 4:54 AM

  • Another worthles stat: This is the first time the Red Wings have won a series on an overtime goal since 1997 against the Mighty Ducks. Since 1995 Detroit has won four series with an overtime goal. All of those were scored in the second extra period.

    Clark Rasmussen April 23, 2007 5:18 AM
  • Calder is taking the pregame skate, not sure who he’s replacing.

Edit: Oh, yeah, and McCarty is taking the skate for Calgary. No word on whether or not he’ll be in.

Edit 2: Hudler is out, that’s who Calder is replacing.
