  1. Kicking this thread off now ’cause I’ve got to head out to a soccer game shortly. I should be back early in the first.

The Wings visit the Flames tonight and the only lineup change we’ve got for Detroit is a rare start in goal for Ty Conklin. He’ll sub in for Jimmy Howard, who played in Vancouver last night. This was a planned change and isn’t related to Howard getting run over by Jannik Hansen on Vancouver’s fourth goal.

I’ve got no idea what the Flames are doing right now and I don’t care. Bitter taste still in my mouth from last night’s game, I’m tempted to not watch this one.

Game time: 9:30 PM (that’s barely a late game!). TV: FSD.

  2. Thought the hook on Bert was weak. Big rebound but I don’t think I fault Conklin on that one. Ugh.

  3. Big hit by Kronner but it gives the Flames a 2-on-1. That pass cannot get through, so it’s on Stuart, too.

  4. Haven’t turned it off. Wings buzzing a bit after getting on the board. Need another one pretty quick here.

  5. I’m not going to say much about this one. It’s late and I’m exhausted.

This was one of those cases that came down to effort. If the Red Wings had put in the effort in the first forty minutes of play that they did in the final twenty, that game is a win. They – as they have too much of a tendency to do – instead played a single period of good hockey and they lost.

Blame the travel if you want, the fact that the third period is when they woke up makes me think they weren’t burned out early. Whatever the reason, that level of effort is unacceptable.

Additional notes: Conklin didn’t look awful, so this might be his first loss of the season that you can’t blame him for. Also, Mike Commodore looked decent out there – not fantastic but he wasn’t awful in only his fourth game of the season. A couple plusses to take away from an otherwise annoying night.

  6. I dont have any thoughts about last night and the only thought I have for tonight is coming out of the gate wide awake and ready to go.
