Stupid Stat of the Day: The Red Wings are winless all-time in games played on the road on March 31 in seasons when they have a losing record in the month of March.

In 1971, the Red Wings tied the Maple Leafs, 2-2, to close out a March in which they went 3-9-3. In 1980, the March 31 game was a 7-5 loss to the Rangers, dropping Detroit to a 4-10-2 record in the month. The next year saw a 5-5 tie with the Calgary Flames put the Wings’ monthly record at 1-9-5. In 1990, Detroit dropped a 5-1 decision in New Jersey to end the month at 5-6-3. It was another 5-1 loss the next year, this time in Chicago, to put their March 1991 record at 6-7-0. Finally, in 2023, Detroit lost in Winnipeg, 6-2, giving them a 5-7-1 record for the month.
