This has happened four times previously. In 1969, Detroit beat Montreal on December 20 and lost to Toronto on December 21. In 1972, the Wings beat the Kings and followed it up with a loss to the Bruins. In 1986, Detroit beat Hartford before falling to Chicago. In 2024, the Wings played the Canadiens in a home-and-home on the 20th and 21st, dropping both games.
