The only previous time the Red Wings have ended a five-game road trip with a 1-0 loss was in January 2014. On January 16 they closed out a trip that started in Dallas and then went to California with a 1-0 loss against the Rangers in New York. On January 18 they rebounded with a 3-2 shootout win over the Kings back at Joe Louis Arena.
