Have we hit the last game of a West Coast road trip without me complaining about how much I hate late games? Shows how little I’ve been paying attention this week.
Let’s get this over with…
Jimmy Howard is back in goal, backed up by Jordan Pearce because Joey MacDonald has back spasms. Speaking of back spasms, Johan Franzen is out. But that’s countered by the fact that Pavel Datsyuk is in, which is a trade I’d make any day (but I’d rather have both).
Game time is 10:30. FSD has it. If it sucks I’m turning it off early.
I have resisted posting all day because I want a W. I have nothing further at the moment other than I love the St. Patrick’s O’Datsyuk shirt the wife bought me!
Wings should have cleared the zone way early that shift. Ugly start.
Well sh*t… Not even a minute in and they score.
If we stop this, I will be shocked…
My god, we’ve missed Datsyuk. What a shot.
Damn, Fil’s goal is satisfying. Z with an empty net, hooked, no call. Filppula comes back and snipes one.
What must we sacrifice to the hockey gods to appease them and get them to stop injuring people?
I am convinced they lost because I touched my Shanahan jersey today. Or maybe it was because of the no calls? Hmmm which one seems more plausible…
No formal recap for this one, it’s too late, so let’s just get to my thoughts on the Wings’ loss in San Jose.
The game-winning goal… I want to complain on the basis of weaker calls having gone against Detroit, but a lot of that goal falls on Justin Abdelkader. If he doesn’t push Braun, maybe the goalie interference call gets made. If he doesn’t follow through like an idiot, he’s not laying on top of Jimmy Howard himself as the goal is being scored. Just a bad play to cap a game full of them.
Speaking of bad plays, was there a time when Brad Stuart was on the ice tonight and didn’t screw something up? We know he wants to bolt for California this summer but he seriously was playing like he’s already a Shark again. Awful, awful night for him.
That said, there were a handful of plays where players just fell down or the puck bounced funny. Bad ice? I don’t know, didn’t seem like the Sharks were having as much of a problem.
