The Detroit Red Wings have traded forward Kris Newbury to the New York Rangers for forward Jordan Owens.
Newbury spent most of the season with the Grand Rapids Griffins but was called up to Detroit for four games, scoring his lone goal of the season on his second shift with the Wings.
The 23-year-old Owens has yet to make his NHL debut, spending his pro career with the ECHL’s Charlotte Checkers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack. He was undrafted, signing with the Rangers in 2007 after a 74-point campaign with the OHL’s Mississauga IceDogs.
