The Wings look to rebound from their OT loss to the Maple Leafs yesterday as they host the Anaheim Ducks today.
Detroit’s lineup is incomplete with Dan Cleary out until the playoffs but the Ducks’ lineup is finally togther with
the team’s cap-skirtingTeemu Selanne’s retirement over.Osgood gets the start for the Red Wings, Giguere goes for Anaheim.
Schneider knocks Holmstrom down in the crease with Homer chasing the puck and an open net. No call. Gonna be one of those games.
Please, Lord, don’t let Bertuzzi or Schnieder score.
If we’re asking the lord for things, go bigger, go for none of them to score and they all suffer minor injuries that will keep them out until next October.
Ducks are the most penalized team in the league and yet it’s Zetterberg going off first for a weak, weak hook.
Any word yet on how long we’re without Cleary???

So McGueire is praising the Ducks being physical by using the example of Giguere knocking down Franzen in front of the net. Which is a penalty that went uncalled. Physical or lucky? No one would be praising them if the refs would call it.

They’re not blind, they saw Samuelsson. They *chose* not to call Kunitz. Because physical is expected from Anaheim but how dare those weak Swedes in Detroit try it.
DUCKS seem to be handling the WINGS with ease.
I have to say, that had to have been one of the worst no-calls I’ve seen in a long time… It’s not often you hear NBC announcers (who lately seem to be anti-redwings, even though they’re “neutral”) call out the refs on a no-call that hurt the redwings.

This game is getting away from the WINGS and quickly.
Milbury praises the Ducks for being able to get away with so much. Again, if the refs are doing their jobs, that’s nothing to praise.

Anyone else thinking the WINGS goal tending is deficient?
MY opinion:
Neither DOM or OZZIE are getting done …. haven’t been for the last 10-12 games.
So that eight game winning streak was done even with bad goaltending?
Nah, last couple games haven’t been great but no reason to worry.
The last couple games hasn’t been as great as they have been all season, I’ll give you that. But it’s one of those “This too shall pass” situations.
The announcers were just talking about how we need to figure out our goaltending situation because niether is good enough.
I say look at the numbers and shut up. What other team can say that they have both goalies with the best GAA in the league 1,2?
There’s not much of a base for that argument. Understandably, sometime stats lie, but they can’t be THAT far away from the truth.
Not sure I agree with the goalie interference call. I’d hate to see it the other way. That said, Randy Carlyle can f*ck himself if he wants to complain about it.

I say alot of the credit for the low GAA is the puck possession style of of the WINGS offense.
I’m not impressed yet with either goalie. I’ve never been a big fan of Ozzie. I’ve felt alot of his stats are due to the guys he has up front.
Sorry to disagree, but I’m just not able to give the WINGS goalies credit.
Giguere Just kept the score from being tied.
He seems to have his best games against the WINGS.
I say it had less to do with the net minding than the puck possession, and checking lines up front.
I just noticed they haven’t said much about Pronger today.
Let’s keep it that way. Too bad Gigeure and his barely legal pads keep making saves.

In that win streak there were two shutouts and two games where the Wings held their opponents to a single goal. What more do you want from the goalies?
Similarly, the Wings’ puck-possession style can make their goalies’ stats look worse. You allow one goal, you get a good GAA, but if it’s only on a handful of shots your save percentage is crap.
You’re right. I’m thinking Giguere has made the difference. He’s a monster in net, and then add to that all the padding he uses for God’s sake.

I never saw him as spectacular last year, maybe I was blind. But he’s just playing better lately.

True there were a few low scoring games in that streak. The WINGS also had to come back from deficits late in games to get the W. I’m still not convinced that the net minding has been the difference.
Anyone else see Pronger (and what it seemed like he was trying to do) ripping off Zetterbug’s face? It look like he was strangling him. x] RIDICULOUS. Simply ridiculous.
I say we all go against the referees, they obviously are biased against some teams.

Better yet, we get Gigeure mad at Schneider and Schneider can throw a drink at him (like the whole Roy thing) and get them both traded! Genius!
This game was just plain ridiculous. I thought the no call on Kunitz and the call on Samuelsson was one of the worst calls I’d seen in a long time……I stand corrected. Giguere did a good job “bumping” (if you could even call it that) Holmstrom.
I feel kind of sick to my stomach…. it reminded me of last year’s playoffs.
Agreed. I’m not a happy camper either about the past 3 games. But, if there’s any consolation, this kind of adversity should help the team and coaching staff devise new strategies to overcome teams like Anaheim. Anaheim is big, they’re aggressive, and they’re mobile. I noticed their forwards did a pretty good job keeping the WINGS bottled up (especially in the WINGS’ own end).
Time will tell. I think the sooner we put this one behind us, the better. Still lots of time to get it together.
Watching the replay of the no-goal… Giguere was screened (obviously). Holmstrom blocked his stick but that stick didn’t start to move until after the puck was in the net.
As much as I want to say the refs cost the Wings this one (and it would be easy to between the Schneider goal that never should have happened and the no-goal at the end), it wouldn’t have mattered if the Wings had done anything on their second through fifth power play chances.
That said, that last one will be archived for if/when I start HolmstromCreaseWatch.com.
My thoughts:
1. That Schneider goal was garbage
2. If it would have been any other person other than Homer that goal would have counted. The refs are out to get him and I don’t care what anybody says.
3. I hate Chris Pronger with a passion!
