Eighteen Years

451

It’s DetroitHockey.Net’s eighteenth birthday and I’ve got writer’s block.

For previous anniversaries of the site’s founding I’ve waxed nostalgic, made grand proclamations that didn’t entirely happen (twice), given away t-shirts, and researched jersey numbers. This year, I’ve got nothing.

One of my co-workers pointed out that no web apps he wrote eighteen years ago still exist. I know this site isn’t the most-read one out there but its longevity is something I’m proud of.

I mentioned my writer’s block to a friend who said I should simply say, “Happy Birthday, DH.N! Take that, Dad!” But it’s not my dad’s fault. At that time, how many sites didn’t make it 18 days, let alone 18 months. Eighteen years?

But I don’t want this to be a “back in my day” thing. Just a brief acknowledgement of making it this far.

Clark founded the site that would become DetroitHockey.Net in September of 1996 with no idea what it would lead to. He continues to write for the site and executes the site's design and development.
