  • Khan reports that Jimmy Howard gets the start tomorrow in Dallas.

I say why the hell not, the team hasn’t done anything in front of Osgood and played well in front of Howie.

I’m glad! Howard is proving himself worthy!

Is this the year Jimmy Howard finally gets a spot on the Redwings roster?

Is this the year Detroit finally finds some young talent in a goalie?

    Is this the year?

Clark, are you suggesting that the WINGS’ troubles are solely attributable to ‘the team’ in front of Osgood? Cuz if you’re point is that Ozzie’s performance has been anywhere close to an acceptable standard, I will strongly disagree.

I’ll give that the WINGS’, as a team have not performed well, over the past month or so, but to say its the defense in front of Ozzie, or even DOM, is to blame, is missing the mark.

Here’s my two cents: Babcock and the coaching staff are hopefully sending a message to the WINGS starting goalies — get back on your games and starting earning your salaries — because, if you don’t, the cards are OFF the table. With respect to HOWARD, the message he ought to be getting is —– Here’s an excellent opportunity to show whether or not, I’m have what it takes to be an NHL goalie.

That is my thoughts on this and thank you, Mr. BABCOCK, for addressing the issue.

  • I’m looking forward to today’s contest. Needless to say, The Red Wings will need to their “A” game. Will they have it? Do they have it? 22 games remain in the regular season. Their motto from here on out should be — the only easy day was yesterday.

    Go WINGS!

    skyguy52 February 17, 2008 6:19 AM
  • Oooh, I like that motto :flagcanada:

It sucks it’s only on NBC. I would much rather watch it somewhere else. Oh well, beggars can’t be choosers.

I hope they win, but seeing how it’s been lately I can’t say I’m optimistic. But also seeing how it’s been lately, they should want a win and fight for it. So, my answer is: I am Switzerland! I am neutral!

  • Going up against the second place team in the west inside their own barn? We better have our sh*t together!

I agree that this will be a good time for Howard to show his stuff

I like an NBC game now and again. The commentary brings a different feel and different look.

The WINGS looking like they brought there ‘A’ game. A few quality shots on net and TURCO shuts the door.

Lets see the PP in action.

    skyguy52 February 17, 2008 8:46 AM
  • Turco’s been the difference so far. WINGS seem to have their LEGS and HEADS back into this one.

HOWARD has yet to be challenged seriously , but has looked good on a couple of STARS shots.

    skyguy52 February 17, 2008 9:04 AM
  • WINGS with good puck control, but 0-3 on the PP.

Turco still standing tall, mid-way thru 2

    skyguy52 February 17, 2008 9:37 AM
  • Howard standing tall on this DALLAS PP.

I’m liking HOWARD’s goalie helmet too.

    Sort of grows on ya.

    skyguy52 February 17, 2008 9:49 AM
  • 40 minutes in the books and its a draw.

First goal in this one is going to be HUGE.

    HOWARD stands tall.

    skyguy52 February 17, 2008 10:00 AM
  • HOWARD has yet to be challenged seriously , but has looked good on a couple of STARS shots.

I was going to mention that until the late second period. You still think that Osgood wouldn’t have fared better if the Wings had kept him from being challenged like they’ve (mostly) done with Howard?

I’m liking HOWARD’s goalie helmet too.

Weird thing about it, the Old English D used on the chin is not the one officially recognized by the Red Wings, it’s the one that HockeyDB and I use in our logo sections. I asked the guy who designed the mask why he went with that one but never got a reply.

    Ozzie’s mask/ helmet is unique too ….

but for some reason, I’m liking Howard’s right now. Color scheme is catchy, noticeable. Haven’t seen it up close yet. I suspect it is a rendition of the Octopus — trademark of the RED WINGS!!

  • Clark:

    Ozzie vs. Howard right now.

    I’m not downplaying Ozzie.

I just have not been happy with his play since the All-Star game.

    Who’s to blame? Not sure.

But by anyone’s standard, Ozzie’s play his last few starts has not been good.

7 goals on 17 shots over 2 periods?

I think giving HOWARD a look is the right decision.

    Lets see what happens.

    skyguy52 February 17, 2008 10:11 AM
  • Absolutely agree that Osgood’s play hasn’t been good as of late. With Wings fans historically prone to immediately blaming the goalie, I’m just trying to make sure neither Osgood nor Hasek (even though I admittedly don’t like Hasek) don’t take too much of the blame.

I would have rather seen Howard go in Columbus but since he’s playing so well today, I can’t complain.

Just got a call from some friends who need help around their house, I’ll be catching the third on the radio. This is why I hate afternoon games, I have stuff to do in the afternoon.

    Clark Rasmussen February 17, 2008 10:16 AM
  • That’s a tough goal to deal with. Who should have been covering him? Lilja? Surprise.

These are the mistakes the Wings have been making in this slump that they don’t usually make.

    Clark Rasmussen February 17, 2008 10:23 AM
  • Howard gives up a re-bound …. onto the blade of HAGMAN.

I was just thinking a re-bound giveaway by HOWARD and it happens.

    I’m thinking I have ESP …

and not liking what I’m “seeing”

    skyguy52 February 17, 2008 10:23 AM
  • Back to the drawing board.

17 point Red Wing Lead at the All Star break now down to just 8

Howard stood tall. But Turco was the difference.

Wings still not able to solve their problem.

    Colorado Tomorrow.

    It won’t get any easier.

    skyguy52 February 17, 2008 11:00 AM
  • I can’t believe it! Another loss? This slump has turned out to be a big bucket of suck! Colorado tomorrow, we need to get it going again otherwise it is going to be one long road trip.

    SYfanSD February 17, 2008 11:25 AM
  • After today’s game, I say the streak may not be over but the slump is. For the first time in several games, the Wings played a really strong, complete game.

    Clark Rasmussen February 18, 2008 3:12 AM
  • Well, I haven’t watched the game yet, but for a loss it sounds optimistic :flagcanada:

I say the Wings kick Maltby out of the line-up, they were awesome when he was out, no? :P

    (only kidding, Maltby fans)

At least they’re stepping their game up.
