Red Wings Deal Tarasenko to Wild

The Detroit Red Wings sent forward Vladimir Tarasenko to the Minnesota Wild on Monday.

The return is “future considerations” which basically means the team is getting out from under his salary cap hit for free.

Tarasenko underachieved in his year in Detroit and it had been rumored that they were looking to move on from him. I wouldn’t have paid to unload him but I’m absolutely fine with giving him away.

There are players already in the organization who are better-suited for a bottom-six role than Tarasenko was and this opens up $4.75 million in salary cap space with free agency set to open tomorrow.

I’m hopeful that this means a big move is coming with that cap space but I’m well aware that hope is not a strategy.
