Red Wings Blank Blackhawks to Take 3-1 Series Lead

Detroit netminder Jimmy Howard stopped all 28 shots he faced on Thursday night, leading the Red Wings to a 2-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. The victory gave the Wings a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference Semifinal series between the two teams.

Jakub Kindl's power play goal at 10:03 of the second period was the difference-maker. Kindl fired a low shot from the top of the right circle through a screen and past Chicago goalie Corey Crawford to get the Red Wings on the board. It was the first power play goal the Blackhawks had allowed in the 2013 postseason.

After Detroit stifled a Chicago power play late in regulation to preserve their lead, Daniel Cleary added an empty-net goal with 39 seconds remaining to wrap up the scoring.

Each team finished the night with three power play attempts.

The series shifts back to Chicago for Game Five on Saturday, with the Red Wings looking to eliminate the Blackhawks and advance to the Western Conference Finals.

Notes: The game marked the first time the Blackhawks were shutout all season and their first three-game losing streak of the campaign.

Nice classless slash right in front of the ref by Toews..... That's a great message to send to kids. I used to have respect for this guy, but maybe Kane's poor sportsmanship and general bad decisions is rubbing off on him.

I will say that after the Kindl goal was the first time all season I've felt that this Red Wings team could do something in the playoffs. They're pulling it all together at just the right time.

They didn't play their best game, but managed to squeeze out the to finish out the series...won't be easy necessarily....

Finally got to a playoff game last night. Gifted a pair of birthday tickets sec.120/7th row. Most rightous seats, energy and game. Two slightly stinky teenage girls a few seats over were forgiven as they heaved their octopi over the glass at games end. Woke up this morning with a broken voice box, but a happy heart.

Pretty sure that's a sign that you're doing it right.
