Forward Darren Helm could miss the start of the regular season after suffering a shoulder injury in the second day of the Red Wings' training camp on Monday.
Helm sprained his right acromioclavicular joint during a drill where he got caught up with defenseman Logan Pyett and went head-first into the boards. That joint is where the collarbone connects to the shoulder.
"I was definitely looking forward to coming in here, playing well, playing some exhibition games, proving that Detroit and everyone else that I belong here," said Helm. "I'll just do what I can to make sure I'm ready."
He is expected to miss two to four weeks while recovering, including spending the next few days off the ice.
Well, that stinks. Inuries and officiating are what cost the Wings the Cup last season. So we start right out of the gate with another injury.
Man, I hope it's not going to be like this all year.
The Wings have the forward depth this year to handle an injury like this to start the season. And this is relatively short term. Worst-case scenario, Justin Abdelkader starts the season in Detroit before heading down to GR. More likely is that the Wings will just use their remaining 12 forwards, with Eaves/Maltby/whoever the odd man out is going to be getting more playing time.
That kind of stinks :/ But at least it's not half the season or anything career ending, let's just hope he rests up!

And congrats on keeping the site up for 13 years - now it's out of those awkward tween phases!
