Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom will be out three-to-five weeks, the team announced Friday, as he will need to undergo surgery to repair a sports hernia.
Holmstrom had a similar surgery last summer to repair a tear on the other side of his groin. This tear is smaller, giving the winger hope that he can return to the lineup with about 10 games left in the regular season.
