Red Wings' Streak Reaches Four Games

The Detroit Red Wings won their fourth game in a row Tuesday night, earning a 2-1 decision over the St. Louis Blues for their ninth win in the last eleven games.

Johan Franzen's third period power play goal gave Detroit the win. Goalie Chris Osgood stopped 17 of 18 shots against to preserve the late lead.

Franzen scored at 8:22 of the final frame. Nicklas Lidstrom carried the puck down the left side and ran out of room to move, throwing a shot on net. Franzen got to the rebound and knocked it past netminder Manny Legace to put the Red Wings in front.

Henrik Zetterberg scored the game's first goal with 4:11 left in the first period, knocking the rebound of a chance by Dan Cleary past former-Red Wing Legace.

Andy MacDonald scored the Blues' lone goal 2:36 into the second off a turnover at the Detroit blue line. He skated in alone on Osgood with Cleary unable to catch up from behind before he lifted a shot over the Detroit goaltender's shoulder.

The two teams will meet again on Friday night in the second game of the home-and-home series.

Notes: Dan Cleary returned to the Detroit lineup after missing six weeks with a fractured jaw... Dominik Hasek did not make the trip, staying home with the flu.

Dan Cleary returns to the lineup in St. Louis but neither Tomas Holmstrom nor Valtteri Filppula will return. Both attempted to practice on Monday but couldn't make it through.

Darren McCarty made it through practice and hopes to play on Friday at home.

Dominik Hasek is out with the flu. He won't travel to St. Louis so Jimmy Howard will be called up to backup Chris Osgood.

D:....all except for the Cleary & McCarty bit are depressing ):

Oh well, at least we won't have to deal with FSN+ issues. XD

I think Osgood should have had the McDonald goal. Damn.

Also real surprised Cleary didn't get caught up to him.

Wings really need to do something with this power play. Gotta get the lead back or the Blues will take advantage.

Thought I'd check back in after an absence the past few games. I've had lots of out-of-town guests the last couple of weeksn.

As for my observations --- Its beeen a little chippy out there. Not many scoring chances by either time. Hopefully, FILPS and McCARTY will be healthy enough to come back in the next couple of games.

Anyone heard anything on STUART?

Franzen bangs in the rebound! 11 goals in 11 games!

That was important.

Welcome back.Fil and Mac should be good for the weekend but Stuart's out until the playoffs and Homer's an unknown.

And the Wings hold on. Always good to beat the Blues. Wins still important with San Jose still so close.

Good defensive effort by the WINGS to keep the BLUES off the board in the 3rd.

Chippy and quite physical play though. Hope no one else winds up with an injury.

Franzen has been on fire. Homer has his work cut out when he comes back to gain his position back.

Helm was sent back down? D: Darn.

I have yet to watch the game, so I can't really comment on it <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.png" /> I hope it was good <img src="http://forums.detroithockey.net/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.png" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.png" />
