DETROIT, Michigan -- The Colorado Avalanche made little to no effort at playing an offensive game Friday night, focusing on defensive play that stifled the Detroit Red Wings for almost 58 minutes but it wasn't enough, with the Red Wings scoring twice in the final 2:20 to pick up a 2-0 win.
Colorado's sacrifice of offense led to the Avalanche having taken only four shots through the first two periods of play.
Henrik Zetterberg scored with 2:20 left in regulation to get Detroit on the board. Zetterberg wrapped around from behind the net and put a shot on goal that deflected off the stick of Jordan Leopold and flipped over goalie Peter Budaj.
Kris Draper added an empty net goal with 13 seconds left to ice the game for the Red Wings.
Colorado finished the night with 15 shots, all of which were stopped by Detroit's Dominik Hasek for his fourth shutout of the season and the 80th of his career.
Budaj stopped 34 of the 35 shots he faced.
The Red Wings will be back in action on Saturday when they visit the Boston Bruins.
Notes: An apparent goal by Colorado late in the second period was negated when the referees determined that Scott Hannan interfered with Dominik Hasek in the crease. The play would have been the fifth shot of the game for the Avalanche.
Dominik Hasek gets the start tonight for Detroit while Peter Budaj will go for Colorado, with Jose Theodore injured. Brett Lebda will return from his wrist injury to replace Niklas Kronwall, meaning Derek Meech stays in the lineup.
That's all I've got for this one. Hopefully everyone in the Detroit area who was snowed in was able to work their way out.
Now a little chippy play with MacLeod hitting Lebda on the icing. We'll see if anything comes of it.
Does anyone know why Kronwall is out of the line-up tonight?
He was hurt in Wednesday's game. Out with a shoulder injury for 10 days.
Holy crap, this is the most boring Detroit-Colorado game I've ever seen.
Colorado has twice as many penalty minutes as they have shots right now.
Wow. Lebda pushed Hannan into Hasek and Hasek dove. Colorado should be pretty p*ssed. Not that the Wings aren't owed a few of those with the stuff called on Holmstrom earlier this year.
Finally! Zata finally puts something on the board. I was starting to think (and am still a little worried) that after all this the Wings wouldn't get anything on some break for Colorado.

OK .. I had assumed that was the case.
Missed parts of the game tonight due some personal issues. Hopefully, I can watch the re-broadcast later this evening.
Happy Super Bowl Weekend Everyone!

He missed the Phoenix game with a sore wrist. Not sure when it happened.
