ST. LOUIS, Missouri -- The St. Louis Blues scored two power play goals in the third period Thursday night, coming from behind to beat the Detroit Red Wings, 3-2.
The Detroit loss ends their streak of games with at least a point at 11.
Keith Tkachuk and Lee Stempniak scored the third period goals. Tkachuk deflected a Paul Kariya shot past Chris Osgood at 4:22 while Stempniak scored almost ten minutes later, through a heavy screen.
"I don't like their second power-play goal when the guy is clearly two feet in the crease and backing into our goalie," coach Mike Babcock said after the game. "That's interference. We should know because Homer (Tomas Holmstrom) gets those calls when he isn't even in the paint. That was the swing in the game."
Brad Boyes had opened the scoring for the Blues at 7:11 of the first. The Red Wings countered in the second with two goals 30 seconds apart by Valtteri Filppula and Mikael Samuelsson.
Notes: The Red Wings lost forward Tomas Holmstrom to injury in the first period.
Late start tonight means I got my soccer game out of the way early and won't miss anything.
Roster moves: Draper stays in, Downey stays scratched, Maltby's still hurt, Osgood gets the start, and Chelios hates being rested (which means Meech is in).
Wow! Some scrappy, and as Mickey commented, "old time" hockey going on here early in the first period.
Ozzie is coming up BIG ..... and Kronner is acting like Chelly in his younger days (going after the big hit) .....
but the pucks have not found their way into the back of the net as yet.
So far, the most physical play I've seen in awhile. The BLUES are definitely giving the WINGS a show.
8D YAY!
Someone scored.
I thought it was Drake but my mom said it was Filppula. So, who was it? ![]()
AND WOO, SAMUELSSON DOES SOMETHING GOOD ![]()
Wow -- two nice passes that lead to goals! ![]()
Nick's pass was picture perfect right on the tape of Samuelson for the 2nd goal

AND WOO, SAMUELSSON DOES SOMETHING GOOD
The first one (to tie it up) was DRAKE to FILPPULA ...
Fitting that DRAKE set it up too!
Very fitting that Drake gets in on the scoring. Good to see the Wings getting back in the lead, St. Louis has a tendency to play the Wings tough and it's always easier from out in front.
Wow, Drake and Mayers. Interesting. Not the best fight, Drake probably wishes he didn't have the visor.
Bah, weak interference call, they let worse than that go at the start of the game. I hate inconsistency.
This one is shaping up to be more like a contest between the likes of the Motown Bullies vs. the Blues Bruisers ...
Is it me or is Dats all over the place?
PAVs has been ALL over the place. He's been quite physical as well, both giving and receiving.
PAVs has been an equal opportunity one man wrecking crew.

In other words... A one man force multiplier!
Jackman is such a badass. Shoving with Datsyuk and Samuelsson tonight. What, Hudler wasn't available?
This one was a deceivingly well played and hard played contest.
It is also a good reality check for the WINGS. The BLUES decided to play physical. The WINGS responded physically.
Good game all the way around.
The ref was looking right at Franzen when he got dumped. Nice.
As MICKEY commented, the fact that FRANZEN was dumped the way he was, and he was DUMPED, isn't THE issue as much as the other garbage that is called. If they are calling the other garbage and then completely IGNORE the DUMP on FRANZEN, that is what is hurting the NEW NHL.

Agreed. All I want is consistency.
