Four Second-Period Goals Lead Red Wings over Predators

The Detroit Red Wings scored four times in the second period Wednesday night, completing a come-from-behind victory over the Central Division-leading Nashville Predators.

With the Red Wings trailing 2-1 entering the middle frame, Henrik Zetterberg spun through the right circle and put a backhander through Nashville goalie Tomas Vokoun and into the net just 1:32 in.

The goal was Zetterberg's second of the night and the second questionable goal Vokoun gave up, leading to his early exit as Chris Mason replaced him in the Nashville crease.

Dan Hamhuis put the Predators back out in front just 53 seconds later with a long wrist shot that evaded defenders and attacking forwards alike before slipping past Detroit netminder Dominik Hasek.

With 7:38 remaining in the period and the Red Wings on a power play that saw them in full control of the puck, Pavel Datsyuk threaded a pass to Nicklas Lidstrom in the slot to redirect the puck past Mason and even things up again.

Jiri Hudler gave Detroit the lead 1:54 later, rifling a high wrist shot into the net for his second goal in as many games.

With 1:00 remaining in the period, Tomas Holmstrom added what would become an insurance goal with a wrist shot from the slot.

Neither team scored in the third period as the Red Wings preserved their lead to earn the win.

The Predators had gotten on the board early with Greg Zanon's first career goal at 6:35 of the opening period.

Zetterberg's first of the night tied things back up 50 seconds later but Jordin Tootoo gave Nashville the lead after 20 minutes on a tip-in goal with 5:08 remaining in the first.

Hasek made 14 saves on 17 shots on the night, while Vokoun stopped six of eight shots against and Mason went 16-for-19.

Each team had two power plays, with Detroit picking up the lone goal with the extra attacker.

The Red Wings will be back in action on Friday when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets, who host Nashville on Thursday night.

Notes: Hudler's goal was his second game-winning goal in as many games.

Holy crap, start of the second is wild. Zetterberg with the 360 backhander that Vokoun should have had. Mason replaces Vokoun and then Dom lets in an awful goal (though replay shows it was tipped).

I went to the game and at first when I saw Zetterburg do that 360 backhander I was like whoa and I didn't think it went in...but then it did! That was amazing Do you have a vid of that? (I saw your other vids of Zetterberg and Datsyuk which were very cool)

I did capture the video of that but I haven't edited it yet and don't know when I'll get to it. I grabbed a ton of other video from old games over the weekend that I'm working on getting loaded into the site, too, so I'm just going to add this to that pile and get to it as soon as I can.

Thank you for the Welcome. Can't wait to watch those vids Do you mind if I upload them on my videos on Gamespot.com? All credit will go to DetroitHockey.net If not, I understand.

BTW If you are unaware of what my videos is on Gamespot.com It is a way for people to upload videos they think are cool and share them with the gaming/online community as user videos.

Since I don't hold the rights to the videos, I can't really complain if they're posted elsewhere. I'd personally prefer links the video here, to drive traffic to the site and maybe get people to stick around, but I'm not in any position to demand that. In the end, it's up to you.

So are you a season-ticket holder or was that a single-game deal? Good choice if it was a single-game.

Well see thats the thing in the videos you have to upload a vid can't really link it, but I will include the link and all credit to the site My mom works with a guy who has season pass and he couldn't go so we gladly took them off his hands. Plus my dad and I watch the wings pretty much every game so we thought it was going to be a good one since Nashville is 1st.

It was probably the best Red Wing game I've watched in person but then again I've only seen like 5. But still, Great game

FYI, I'm adding that stash of video right to the site right now (instead of recapping the damn Avs game). Zetterberg's goal is included.

I'll post a full list of the new video (since some of it is replacing old, lower-quality stuff) when I'm done.

Well, that shouldn't have fixed anything (not that it should have been broken in the first place) but I'm glad it did. Your version turned out pretty sweet.
