Red Wings - Game Recap

Red Wings Blank Oilers to Win Seventh-Straight

DETROIT, Michigan -- The Detroit Red Wings picked up their seventh victory in as many games Wednesday night, holding the Edmonton Oilers scoreless en route to a 3-0.

The Red Wings set the tone for the game in the first period, going without a goal but holding the Oilers without a shot. Edmonton wouldn't be credited with a chance on Detroit goalie Dominik Hasek until 20 seconds into the second period.

Dan Cleary's third goal in the last two games put the Red Wings on the board 1:35 later, when he tipped a shot from the point by Kirk Maltby past Edmonton netminder Dwayne Roloson.

Henrik Zetterberg stretched the Wings' lead to two at 2:57 of the third period, scoring a shorthanded, bad-angle goal after Roloson lost track of the puck on a Detroit 3-on-2.

Detroit's power play finally clicked with 4:32 remaining in the game when Jiri Hudler banged home a rebound chance with the Oilers down a man.

Hasek needed to stop only 16 shots on the night while Roloson made 42 saves on 45 shots.

The Red Wings stopped six Edmonton power plays and scored on one of their seven chances with the extra attacker. Three of those power plays came in the final half of a third period that saw the Oilers frustrated.

Detroit dodged a bullet in the second period when Jason Williams took a shoulder to the head from Raffi Torres. Williams crashed to the ice, hitting his head again, and didn't move.

After he was carried from the ice on a stretcher, it was announced that he would be fine and was being treated as a precautionary measure.

I'm pretty sure that most of us Wingnuts still have a sore spot from the Oilers last year. Bottom line we owe them and they are in our house

On a side note, I noticed that the site has been pretty quiet in the particular forum. You guys are killing me! Wake up and post your comments!!!!!

And one other thing. I am even guilty of this, but I noticed that Hasek is something like forth or fifth in GAA. Hard to believe based on the way he was playing last month

Looking forward to tomorrow night to see my favorite team kick the hell out of the Oilers!

Hasek's GAA kicks ass, it's his save % that sucks. Of course, that's partially because the Wings' defense kicks ass this year. If they don't allow any shots, he can't be expected to stop any.

Osgood's stats kick some ass, too.

Hey Clark, Hows it going?

A little note for anyone who has doubted Ozzie:

Note Worthy -Currently on a two-game winning streak (10/28-11/2). -Earned a victory in his first start of the season on Oct. 16 at LA, stopping 22 of 23 shots, including 16 saves in the final two periods. -Ranks fifth in wins (328) among active goaltenders, behind Dominik Hasek (330). -Lives on the same lake in British Columbia as Ken Holland does in the off-season. -244 wins with Detroit are second all-time in franchise history. -Enters this season with 10 consecutive 20-win seasons.

I'll bet he passes the groininator this year

Wow, I don't remember the last time I saw a team held to no shots in a period. Wings defense is strong, lets hope they hold up and Dom doesn't get bored.

Hey thanks for the welcome

I got banned from the Oilers chat room for saying SO LONG to the Great Jackie Parker. I guess they had a problem talking about football. I realize this is a hockey room, but the dressing room smells the same whether it's football, hockey, or soccer. I don't mind being banned from Edmonton. DO YOU KNOW THAT IT IS -10 CELSIUS RIGHT NOW THat is like 10 F

to Northern Punch.

I wouldn't call the hit on Willy BS, it was just one of those tough things you hate to see in sports, a guy looking one way and a hit coming from another.

Glad to see him moving on the way off and glad to see the Wings come out strong afterwards.

Yeah, it was a fair looking hit. And the Oilers were protecting the front of the net. Hope he's okay.

Woah! Way to go Z! That was surprising, like Roloson, I had lost track of the puck until it was in the net.

Huge to get some breathing room, hope they don't need it though.

And the Wings hold on to finish things off. Dom gets the shutout, having to make only 16 saves. Cleary and Z continue their streaks while Hudler gets the power play on the board. Not a bad night, especially since Willy is going to be fine.

Nashville is next! And check out Cheli with 2A's

Posted by SYfanSD on 11/9/2006 at 8:33 PM

Well, we have finally brought things together and we are clicking nicely as a team. The real test will be tomorrow night with Nashville and will also decide who will control the Central division. I want a W mainly because I really can't stand Kariya. Hopefully Cheli will hook him up And for Northern Punch it was 78 F here last night want to trade?

Hasek is again number one in GAA
