  • The Wings open their season tonight with the Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks coming to town. The Ducks are coming off of a split with the LA Kings in a “home-and-home” series played in London.

Detroit is expected to sit Ellis, Downey and Meech. Anaheim will be without former Red Wing Mathieu Schneider, one of two offseason defections to the Ducks. The other, Todd Bertuzzi, will be in the lineup tonight.

  • Early thoughts… Seems a bit choppy. Ducks are faster than the Wings.

  • Weak call on the Ducks leads to a Zetterberg goal!

  • Weak call on the Wings but at the end of the first with five seconds left on the Ducks’ PP, looks like it’s killed off. Detroit got faster throughout the period.

  • I say screw him! We are more than capable without him or Schneider!

Not sure what was up with that double minor to Lilja, looks like the refs are already off to a good start this season :cursing:

Way to go Homer! Tie game! :hockeysmiley:

  • Gah! After Lidstrom’s chance, how many “almosts” is that for the Wings?

    Clark Rasmussen October 4, 2007 1:06 AM
  • That really sucked! Check out Malts playing the body!

  • Nice, Perry :hockeysmiley:

  • I’m surprised that both went on the Lebda hold.

  • Damn, Raffy, that was an awful giveaway.

Shootout. Well, lets get these out of the way early. At the very least, we’ve got the loser point.

  • Any wagers on this one?

    skyguy52 October 4, 2007 1:42 AM
  • Woohoo! Way to go Dom and Huds!

And the angle Versus used on those shots sucked.

hahahha! I loved when they said that!

If only the game would have been on FSNDet, it would have been 1011132339518191x better.

  • Welcome back Dallas Drake!

  • Kopecky with the retaliatory late hit on Pronger, surprised that wasn’t called but I’m glad to see him throwing his weight around.

  • Wings skating, shooting and passing well in both ends. Wings playing a very good two-way game. Just a quick comment on one Wing in particular — FILPULA — who is looking like and skating a lot like FEDOROV, when Sergie Fedorov was on his game. Refreshing to see DALLAS DRAKE willing and able to take the gloves off and go after the chicken PERRY who is bigger and younger …… Can’t wait to have AARON DOWNEY in the line-up for a little more muscle. Go WINGS!

  • HASEK has looked good too, especially on the break-away by MOWERS.

    skyguy52 October 4, 2007 12:22 PM
  • How come Bertuzzi couldn’t do that as a Red Wing?

    Clark Rasmussen October 4, 2007 12:28 PM
  • How come Bertuzzi couldn’t do that as a Red Wing?

Unfortunately, BERTUZZI, is looking like the BERTOOZI of old — i.e. that position play he just made on LILIA …… LILIA goes to the box …. and WALLA the DUCKS score!

    skyguy52 October 4, 2007 12:39 PM
  • I really can’t stand Bertuzzi! Hopefully we come out with a W on this one. I have to say the Wings are looking good, especially Drake with a drop of the gloves in the first game of the season.

Well, BERTUZZI doesn’t really bother me. He never did. He does what he does, which is score ugly goals and use his size to out-position opponents. Unfortunately, He seems to be back on his game, albeit early yet in the season, but he appears to be back on his game. I just wish he had it for last year’s play-off run. We could have used him………………
