  • Much like the thread for Game 1, I start the thread for Game 2 with news about Bertuzzi…

He’s out. Seems like they’re playing it safe, no reason to make a change since the lineup worked so well in Game 1. Can’t argue with that but if the Flames get tougher, it’d be nice to have a bigger guy out there.

I understand the need to play it safe, but I think this might have an adverse effect. We’ll see if we can make due on the physical onslaught sure to come!

  • Huge, huge early goal by Datsyuk. Great steal from Tanguay, I’m a bit surprised that Kipper couldn’t stop the shot.

    Clark Rasmussen April 15, 2007 5:24 AM
  • Well Datsyuk’s opened this one up well for the Wings… Detroit up 1-0!

    -Al- April 15, 2007 5:25 AM
  • Lidstrom with the five-on-three goal! Wings have gotta keep this pressure up, don’t let them get in the game at all.

    Clark Rasmussen April 15, 2007 5:28 AM
  • Great game shaping up for the Wings early on… Too bad I gotta get going right now… I’ll probably catch the highlights on the NHL site later…

    -Al- April 15, 2007 5:31 AM
  • Holy hell, I think everyone knew the Flames would come out strong, I don’t think anyone expected them to come out stupid.

    Clark Rasmussen April 15, 2007 5:36 AM
  • excellent 1st period

    choyer April 15, 2007 6:14 AM
  • Damnit, Flames get on the board. I question the call on Samuelsson but in this game it’s going to be called. We’ll see if the Wings can keep Calgary from evening things up.

    Clark Rasmussen April 15, 2007 6:20 AM
  • Wings are absolutely on their heels. Not looking good.

  • Wings are absolutely on their heels. Not looking good.

A break in the action, so I’ll weigh in. The Wings seem to be trying hard to give this game away. Half way through the 2nd period, score 2-1, and if the action continues like it has for the last 20 minutes of regulation, The Wings will lose this game ….
I don’t get it ….. Flames are winning the one-on-one battles, and throwing their weight around. Lang was drilled in front of the Flame bench. I hope that wakes him up!

    Oh well, we’ll see …

    skyguy52 April 15, 2007 6:29 AM
  • Detroit looked a lot better at the end of the second. They weren’t forechecking for sh*t for a lot of the period, maybe this is a sign that they’re waking back up. Or maybe Calgary is burning out. Or both.

    Clark Rasmussen April 15, 2007 6:52 AM
  • End of the 2nd and I’m not terribly impressed with the action. I don’t see the FLAMES over powering, but I do see the WINGS failing to execute some pretty basic stuff. Only point I’ll make, is that the WINGS had better not sit back. I’ve seen it happen, time and time again, with a 2 goal lead evaporating, because the WINGS fail to execute, losing battles in the corners and along the boards …. Its rediculous to out shoot an opponent 34-11 and only have a ONE goal lead ……. I’m p*ssed! :flagusa:

    skyguy52 April 15, 2007 6:55 AM
  • agreed, unexcusable goal differential right now considering the difference in shots. Wings need to execute better in the 3rd.

    choyer April 15, 2007 7:07 AM
  • Valtteri Filppula is the next Slava Kozlov. He’s becoming a playoff beast!

    Clark Rasmussen April 15, 2007 7:16 AM
  • A great game puts the Wings up 2-0 going to the Saddledome. Great goals by Datsyuk, Lidstrom, and Filpulla.

Calgary will be going out in a clean sweep! (Had to say that cause my bro’s a Flames fan… lol)

    -Al- April 15, 2007 8:03 AM
  • Really strong finish by the Wings, hope they’re not giving the Flames anything to build on in Calgary. This makes Game Three a virtual must-win for the Flames. If the Wings can split the next two games (or better), they’re sitting nicely.

    Clark Rasmussen April 15, 2007 8:15 AM
  • I think Calgary will squeak away with one at home, but as you said, Detroit needs to at least split it at the Saddledome and get a win back at the Joe.

    choyer April 15, 2007 8:19 AM
  • They had me worried in the 2nd period. The fact is, Calgary hasn’t showed up yet. Out shot and out played badly in both games. They’re obviously p*ssed, and I’m sure, they’ll do a lot of soul searching on the flight back to Stampede Land ….. Quite honestly, I find it hard to believe the WINGS have had as easy a time with them.

Well its off to the Steer and Saddleville ……….. A steak sounds pretty good about now. Think I’ll rustle one up …YeeHAAAA! :P

I think you’re right about Calgary having not shown up yet, but I also doubt that they will until it’s too late… They’re spending too much time in the box, and Detroit’s powerplay seems to be improving slightly… I know they didn’t convert on a number of opportunities, but they’ve been keeping the Flames penalty killers under control so far in this series. Now they have to figure out how to beat Kipprusoff, while still keeping that hold on the Flames. They’ve done it twice now in this series, and if they can find a consistent weakness in the replays, they may be able to strike out on the powerplay and grab the next 2 games at the Saddledome with the same ease as they did at the Joe…
