Zetterberg Out 2-3 Weeks

The Detroit Red Wings announced on Wednesday that leading scorer Henrik Zetterberg is expected to miss the next two to three weeks with an inflammed herniated disc.

Zetterberg missed Tuesday’s game in Chicago but the team had expected him back for Friday’s rematch. Tests revealed that the injury was more serious than originally determined.

“We’re trying to be proactive,” Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said. “The doctor said seven to 10 days of no activity, and at that point, we’re hopeful the inflammation will go away. There’s a feeling he could play through this, but we want him healthy for the playoffs.”

Zetterberg becomes the fifth Detroit forward expected to miss significant time while injured. Dan Cleary, Mikael Samuelsson, Tomas Kopecky and newly-acquired Todd Bertuzzi are all also currently out.

Matt Hussey, who played on Tuesday in Chicago, will remain with the team with Zetterberg out.
